When I'm not researching, writing, or teaching, I am usually throwing a ball for my two rescue dogs, reading fiction, spending time with my fantastic partner of 17 years, or puttering outside in our garden.
I also grow and propagate succulents and tropical plants, both at home and in the Harlan Greenhouse at GW. My biggest botanical achievement was in 2023, when I alerted the U.S. Botanical Garden to a mislabeled succulent. They changed the label, saving tens of thousands of people from the serious misapprehension that a plant was a crassula pyramidalis when, in fact, it was not.
