When I'm not researching, writing, reading, or teaching, I am usually throwing a ball for my ill-behaved rescue dogs or hanging out with Liz, my wonderful partner of 13 years. Kayaking is our favorite way to explore Western Massachusetts, and the pandemic has also given us occasion to introduce ourselves to birding and vegetable gardening.
I am an enthusiastic grower and propagator of succulents, particularly haworthias and agaves, although lately I've been enamored of sempervivums, hardy opuntias, and anything else that can survive outside in Zone 5–6. If you ever want to trade plant cuttings, say the word. I also love hiking, reading fiction, gardening, listening to podcasts, and making pottery.
